Woaaaaaah.... That's a tough question. Which has really grown on me is my skepticism all along these years. Other than that, NOTHING! Other than Tradition and Bienfacture...

I started so many years ago with watches, in my dreams first, then in reality, some 26 years ago.

What fascinated me is still present: Divers, Travel Watches, Chronographs and Alarms.

Through all these years, I appreciated more and more complicated watches for the genius the express. And finishings and decoration.

But, I more and more wonder if we are not at the end of a cycle... For some years, now, I feel there are less and less new exciting watches released. The finishings go down, the costs are saved at the contrary of prices which are higher and higher. Innovation is not here anymore, at least from brands which were famous for that.

Still, I have a huge love for watches, and for those I loved from the beginning. Strangely, nothing has grown on me, to answer your question. It is not arrogance from my side, it is the consequence of a huge passion for these objects dear to us. I still love what I loved, not less nor more... I discovered many details, many different horological expressions, many watches and brands I didn't know. I discovered that we learn everyday, that Expertise is hugely subjective...

Well, there is maybe something which is growing on me, the faithfulness to tradition and bienfacture. That's maybe why I love some brands more more and more such as Angelus or Arnold and Sons, which I rediscovered with a renewed pleasure last year at W and W...

Best,

Nicolas

What is one thing that has "grown on you"

 By: Thomas_3 : March 29th, 2024-19:32
since you started watch collecting. One thing for me is printed numerals, I uses to consider only watches with applied indices. I will now look at printed numerals and own a couple. One thing that will never grow on me what I call "lugless watches". I do ...

So many things.

But for today I'm going with: bracelets! I used to be straps only. Then little by little I started appreciating bracelets, first the feel and sense of security, so I got a very low key sport watch or two. Now I wear bracelet watches almost half the time! ...

Didn't like it before, but now I think it has a nice low-tech old-world charm!

Great questıon…

1. Matt dials. Only rare exceptions are allowed in without a matt dial 2. 3-dimensional cases including the bezel and the crystal. Anything non 3 dimensional / flat gets killed or not accepted in 3. Big / substantial crowns. Completely allergic to small c...

Patek Philippe Nautilus...

 By: patrick_y : March 29th, 2024-20:09
When I was still a kid, in my teens - I thought that a Rolex Submariner would be a great watch. It was robust, reliable, all the right attributes one would want in a watch. But a family member suggested I look at the Patek Philippe Nautilus - and I found ...

LOL!!!

Good one! So good!

Unfortunately +1.

I was going to say my stomach, but realized this is about watches.

I'd say the right deployant. Most deployants I find uncomfortable and always rejected them in favor of a tang buckle. It's still the case for a majority of the deployants, but I have found one or two that are ok. Also, colored gold watches are slowly grow...

Clous de Paris bezels and cases. Perhaps easier to pull off as an older collector? ...

Whoa, that’s subtle!🤣

…but there’s still something drawing me to it.👍🏽

Ha!

It grows on you, ArmisT.

Simplicity

 By: TeutonicCarFan : March 29th, 2024-22:26
Although my 'nicest' watched are complications, I'm drawn to simpler time only as time goes by!

I have a handful of lugless watches…

 By: KMII : March 29th, 2024-22:28
And with the exception of the VC1972 all allow for relatively easy strap changes 😊 What has definitely grown on me with time is simplicity, thinness and smaller case diameters 👍🏻

Small seconds

 By: Weems@8 : March 29th, 2024-22:59
Ignored small seconds for years, because three hands on each other was for a reason logical and the way a clock always looked. When i stepped out of my habit to ignore small seconds and bought a watch with a small seconds dial, i could not imagine i got s...

There are lug-less watches that are not integrated bracelets.

 By: Jay (Eire) : March 30th, 2024-01:59
I own a few examples, Seiko Tuna, Urwerk 105. But I know what you mean, even with a bracelet sometimes it’s nice to be able to switch it up to a strap and have a “new” watch. What’s grown on me? Dressier watches, on straps. And more recently rose gold (or...

Rolex 🫣

 By: Watchonthewrists : March 30th, 2024-07:26
I was never a huge fan of the brand . I am more a independent collector but since a while i find more appreciation for the bigger watch brand(s)of the world .

Same

Don't think I got a rolex until I had 6 or 7 others first

Colored gold

 By: donizetti : March 30th, 2024-07:42
Great question. For many years I only wanted white metal watches but recently I have come around on some watches looking great in colored gold. Best Andreas

Rubber straps.

 By: fmc000 : March 30th, 2024-08:07
I used to be a bracelet-only guy but in recent years I started appreciating good rubber straps, especially those FKM items that are so ubiquitous these days. On the other hand, I never liked leather straps and I still don't like them now.

I didn't get them at first, now I love them

Absolutely.

I cry myself to sleep every night (almost true) I want a Cartier tank watch so bad.
