Very well said . . .

and inspirational as well:

a) because all the others were stolen,
b) one is enough for any man.

Feel free, anyone, to continue the list!

Question to a Billionaire, "Why do you wear that scratched-up piece of junk?"
Answer: "Because it helped me to get to where I am today."
Q: Helped you?
A: It was losing seconds, then a minute or two. So I made sure that I was always The First to arrive for any occasion - to be there before anyone else.
Q: Being the first at a social gathering is not always a good idea.
A: But I could conceal myself, observe the others, then jump in at just the right moment.
Q: and now?
A: The watch doesn't work at all - and why should it? Now I am The One who makes the time! If someone is foolish enough to ask, I show him my pre-set dial to make sure that he misses his flight.

Question to a Homeless Person, "But you still keep on wearing it?"
A: "Because I can't afford transportation to a pawn shop. In better days I could - but the handful of dollars all went for beer."

You can get used to almost anything - even owning and wearing *only* one watch - it's just a matter of routine.

;-)

What exactly is an "every day watch"?

 By: rnaden : September 3rd, 2015-08:50
This is the question posed by my wife when we were out trawling the watch boutiques in Kuala Lumpur earlier today. She says that the watch blogs are full of people mentioning it, but among enthusiasts and collectors, no one seems to be able to give a defi...

A desirable quality of an 'everyday watch' . . .

 By: Dr No : September 3rd, 2015-09:19
. . . would be affordability combined with replaceability; one that doesn't break the bank, and could be replaced if lost or damaged. Perhaps that's why DateJusts are so prevalent ;-) . . .

Good qualities

:-) And they all make sense. Now...if only there was just one watch and not more than half the collection that fits the bill.... Thanks for the feedback, Art!

My personal answer is the watch I want to wear. Everyday brings its answer.

Today, the one I posted on wristscan: And I wore this Rolex GMT Master 6542 almost everyday for a long time. Best, Nicolas

I agree with a twist...

I rarely wear a watch more than one day. If I have to worry about various occasions, than I just wear more watches in the day! I like variety and the mood. And I like reading purists and if someone posts a watch I haven\'t worn then I look to go wear it. ...

My everyday

Watch is a Breitling superocean on a rubber ocean racer strap with deployment. The watch can take a beating and with the rubber strap it\'s a little more low key. I agree that a everyday watch should be a easy watch to replace and at a reasonable price. ...

That's a perfect every day specimen!

I agree...these Breitlings are close to being indestructible! Thanks for sharing.

Every day rotating watch

 By: jrwong23 (aka watchthebin) : September 3rd, 2015-21:01
Is my "everyday" watch :p I like variety so almost always rotate watches each day unless when traveling Good post Richard! Unfortunately I don\'t have a proper answer for you :p Cheers Robin

LOL! That's two similar answers

 By: rnaden : September 3rd, 2015-21:37
and the same one I gave my wife...she wasn't buying it :-|

Hmmm...

 By: KMII : September 3rd, 2015-22:47
Given that most of us have several, I guess a watch that one would not mind wearing daily and that would work for most occasions, even if one chooses another one, so that they all get some wrist time...

Don't I know it...

But sometimes she speaks the voice of reason

the ubiquitous Rolex Datejust!

Fluted with jubilee bracelet, thank you very much. If I didn't know better this will be my singular watch. It is the go everywhere, do everything watch!

Fortunatelly there must not be such a thing as the "every day watch"...

 By: MCG (Markus) : September 4th, 2015-06:04
... because, an every day watch must fit every situation. That means, it'll be somehow...... a bit boring! ;-) Every watch with character will not fit an every day situation. Either it'll be to edgy, to round, to thick, to colourful, to sporty to dressy.....

an everyday watch is an intangible good

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : September 4th, 2015-06:17
to a watch collector. It just does not exist. Only non watch collectors (can) have an everyday watch. It means that they only have one watch! One as in 1. And only wear that 1 watch. Every day. Can you imagine? No you can't. So an everyday watch is a phan...

Correctomundo!

 By: TheMadDruid : September 4th, 2015-06:43
It's a great question, and I think both you and Richard answered it. There just is no such thing.

which had me thinking about an "all night watch."

My entire text has been deleted - fortunate you! Lost is lost. Nothing here left to edit. Good times all! amerix

LOL! Thanks for your input

 By: rnaden : September 6th, 2015-00:12
Definitely lends a new perspective....at least for the non night watch ;-)

I believe it exists for me, but I'm not sure I've found it, and there may be more than one for me and more than one approach.

 By: watchthatman : September 4th, 2015-19:25
You could go the route of durability versatility replacabilty, and possibly affordability. For me maybe a vintage date just real vintage with some color in the dial may do it. A straight stainless grand taille reverso? Maybe. Maybe even one of those paner...

That's an interesting viewpoint

 By: rnaden : September 6th, 2015-00:14
But definitely one that holds water. I think we generally agree that this one watch thing exists only for those who don\'t care much about appreciating different watches but are contented with that one. Flip side, that would make us a very discontented bu...

This is something I keep pondering...

 By: Esharp : September 6th, 2015-06:55
I appreciate many watches but don\'t feel the need to own them. Virtually everything I try on or look at has some fatal flaw. Maybe that\'s my pickiness / OCD / some other undiagnosed psychological problem. Or am I just lacking the \'buy and collect\' gen...

There are many watches that would fit that bill

 By: rnaden : September 6th, 2015-17:44
The JLC is a superb choice, for sure, as would a datejust, a GS to name some. I'm not sure I can be like that guy who "retired" from collecting....is there such a thing? It's probably as mythical as the "one watch" scenario we play out :-)
